the air of elsewhere

there is a call
there’s beauty deep
for which I’ll fall
for which I’ll weep
it’s hidden there
in realms unknown
that secret share
unseen unshown

in moments rare
in visions sweet
I’ve travelled there
that hope to meet
in brief delight
then I would find
that fairest flight
of fleeting kind

it’s drawn me on
to realms concealed
I’ve often gone
to yonder field
and seeking for
that blessed somewhere
to find it’s in
the air of elsewhere

pulp fiksie

ek het my uitgeplukte oog laat bly
waar hy van kyk genoeg kan kry
my regterhand lê by die kos
wat hierdie pelgrim agterlos
ek sal my stuk-stuk so vermink
terwyl die donker helder vir my wink
als loop verkeerd op hierdie vel
van binne en buite in elke sel
my voete wat met kromheid loop
sal ek nog van my lyf af moet stroop
en so my ore lief vir gal
by skinderplekke af laat val
en hierdie tong wat seën en skel
se dae is eendag ook getel
als afgeruk sal sonde stop
behalwe nog vir hierdie kop
o hierdie kop

crazy time

oh indeed

it’s crazy time

dark and deep

the crazy chime

I’m falling

sinking

says the rhyme

lost in winds

of crazy time

oh it’s evil

crazy time

cold and cruel

the crazy cry

I’m gambling

losing

calls the lie

lost in winds

of crazy time

oh it’s lonely

crazy time

sad and sore

the crazy ‘why?’

I’m longing

wanting

sounds the sigh

lost in winds

of crazy time

oh it’s empty

crazy time

dead and dry

the crazy I

I’m ending

dying

reads the line

lost in winds

of crazy time

oh it’s holy

crazy time

sweet and still

the crazy high

I’m resting

loving

says the rhyme

found in winds

of crazy time

Easy to avoid God...

In our own time and place it is extremely easy (to avoid God). Avoid silence, avoid solitude, avoid any train of thought that leads off the beaten track. Concentrate on money, sex, status, and (above all) on your own grievances. Keep the radio on. Live in a crowd. Use plenty of sedation. If you must read books, select them very carefully. But you’d be safer to stick to papers. You’ll find the advertisements helpful; especially those with sexy or a snobbish appeal. C.S. Lewis

dans in die skemer

Margie Fontaine was asked after a dance: “Could you explain it?” She answered: “If I could explain it I would not dance it.” Dans in mistige skemer van verwondering.

kersfees

liggies brand op elke straat

en die mense word vir niemand kwaad

want dis kersfees in ons stad

tienduisend vader krismisse

is nat gesweet in hul sneeumusse

want dis kersfees in ons stad

'n honderd winkels in 'n ry

is almal innig lief vir my

en my geldvriend sal my help betaal

en wie moet ek bedank

as ek vir iemand 'n present kan koop

bier kan drink tot die trane loop

of jou lekker lyf

my liefiewyf

kan druk as ons dans

o, 'n katjie

of 'n hondjie

of 'n ringetjie vir jou

my dingetjie vir jou

selfmoord anoniem

se skof is nou van tien tot tien

want geld kan nooit die liefde koop

en partytjies moet ten einde loop

liggies brand op straat

en die mense word vir niemand kwaad

want dis kersfees in ons stad

spaar my

here

spaar my

spaar my nog 'n kersfees

sonder u

Christianity isn't simple

If Christianity was something we were making up, of course we could make it easier. But it is not. We cannot compete, in simplicity, with people who are inventing religions. How could we? We are dealing with fact. Of course anyone can be simple if he has no facts to bother about. C. S. Lewis
